National Junior Honor Society Procedures
1. At the end of the third Nine Weeks, the Counselor prints the "Junior Honor Society" report for 7th
grade. This report shows a list of students that have an average of at least 90 percent in the current and
previous school year.
2. Student Activity Information Forms are distributed to 7th grade students. Administrators, and
counselors talk about the importance of starting documentation for college career readiness and advisers review
the sections of the Student Activity Information Form.
3. Chapter Advisers request Student Reports for the following:
* students that have been in ISS or Alternative
* students that have received referrals.
Improper school behavior as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, behavior referrals or any other actions which reflect behavior not compatible with the image of leadership the school
wishes to maintain or which reflect negatively on the school, may result in non-selection. These
reports are then given to the Faculty Council when they begin to review applications and deliberate for selection into NJHS.
4. The faculty receives a Student Evaluation Form, and assigns value to each candidate's service, leadership,
citizenship, and character, using a four-point scale, four being high, one being low. Any rating of "two" or "one"
must be followed by comments indicating what circumstances led to this below-average rating. Faculty can only
rate students that are in their class or extracurricular activity.
5. The Faculty Council reviews the Student Activity Information Packet, Student Evaluation Forms, essay, and
Student Report of Conduct. After evaluating all information for leadership, service, citizenship, and character, the Faculty Council prepares a Selection and Non-Selection list of students to present to the Chapter Advisers.
6. The Chapter Adviser presents the list of selection and non-selection to the principal. The principal reviews the Faculty Council comments, and gives final approval.
7. Selection and Non-Selection letters are mailed out to students. The Induction Ceremony is scheduled for the
fourth week in May.
8. Induction Ceremony:
*New inductees will receive their certificate and membership card.
*NJHS members will receive their service pin by parents.
9. New members select officers, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, for the following
school year. Officers are then inducted at the End-of-Year Assembly. The outgoing officers are awarded a
trophy in appreciation of the service for the current school year.
